Coping During the Holiday Season
Be Realistic
Allow yourself to express your feelings. It will take some time to recover, so try not to volunteer yourself to plan a family gathering, bake or decorate. Allow yourself to heal by just enjoying time with family and allow the others to do the planning and decorating this year.
Time Heals
The first holiday season after a separation or divorce may be tough, but recognize that time will heal and the holidays will eventually get easier. Start your new life by starting new traditions.
Keep them out of it
Try not to involve the children in any discussions. This is relevant throughout the whole year, but with the holiday season especially, because of the heightened emotions.
